Activity: Report on the Parole System in Canada

The parole system in Canada is administered by the National Parole Board. What is parole? What are the eligibility requirements? How does the National Parole Board make parole determinations?

In this activity, you will prepare a research report on the Parole System in Canada.

  1. Visit the Web site of the National Parole Board and include the answers to the following questions in your report.
    • What is parole?
    • What is the purpose of parole?
    • What are the principles guiding parole?

  2. Investigate the section on “Parole Decision-Making: Myths and Realities”. Highlight 10 of the realities of the parole system.
  3. Research parole eligibility requirements at http://www.npb-cnlc.gc.ca/infocntr/parolec/pparele.htm. Answer the following questions:
    • What is parole?
    • What is the purpose of parole?
    • What are the principles guiding parole?
